#open uses hashtags to allow players to communicate their preferences and desires as well as search for others that share their interests.
On the Preferences tab in the Settings screen () you will see three lists. By default they are titled “I’m open to” (or “We’re open to”), “Looking for”, and “Interests”, but you can rename them. To do so, tap the Rename hashtag list button then tap on the Rename button. You can then select a name from the list of choices provided, or create your own (select Other...Use your own at the bottom of the picker list then tap Done to enter your custom name).
You can add up to 30 hashtags to each list. Just tap Add hashtags (or Edit if you want to add to an existing list) and start typing in the text field. (Note: you don’t have to type the “#” symbol, the app will do that for you.) As you type, you’ll see auto-complete suggestions under the text field based on the hashtags in use by other #open players. You can tap to select a suggestion, or keep typing to add your own. Tap Return to save the new hashtag, and then keep typing to add another. When you’re done adding hashtags, tap Save in the upper right corner of the screen to save all your changes.
To the right of each list on the Preferences tab, you’ll see a toggle. Use these to make each list visible or hidden (a list will always remain hidden if it contains no hashtags). Making a list visible means that any players viewing your profile will be able to see that list. Your profile will also be displayed in the search results if someone uses the app’s Search function to find users with any of the hashtags that you have included in your visible lists. If another player has a Preferences list that shares one or more hashtags from your Preferences lists, a small purple dot will be displayed in the lower right corner of their profile card and the hashtag will be highlighted purple on the list when viewing their profile.
The hashtag list at the bottom of the Boundaries tab works in the same way as the Preferences lists. The only difference is that hashtags on this list will be highlighted differently than those on the preferences list. If a player has a tag on their Boundaries list that matches a hashtag on one of your Preferences lists, their profile card will display a dot outlined in red and the tag will be highlighted red on that list when viewing their profile.
Note: #open requires that you have at least one visible Preferences list with at least one hashtag displayed to complete your profile.
